Spinning 202 – Spin Flax on a Wheel

SpinningFlax

1 day class

Learning how to spin flax into linen is a very rewarding skill for the intermediate spinner. Linen is the only fiber that becomes softer and stronger as it is used. Many heirloom-quality table linens and coverlets were traditionally woven in linen. In this one-day class we will discuss how to grow and harvest flax and you will use a flax break and hackles to process flax plants for spinning. You will spin tow, long-line flax and roving with and without a distaff. You will learn to spin the linen yarn both wet and dry, as well as how to scour the finished skeins.

The handout, Flax Challenge, by Patsy Zawistoski will be provided and is included in the materials fee.

This class is from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Note: Since our workshops are specifically designed for adults, an individual must be 18 years old to enroll in a class. All students should wear practical work clothes and shoes. For your safety, we ask that you do not wear shorts or sandals to a class you are attending.

All our classes close 24 hours before the class date with the exception of classes that start on Monday, which will close the Friday before. If there's a class that closed early that you'd like to attend, please call us at 254-754-9620 to check for availability.
