This class is everything you need to know to get started weaving. Whether you are looking for a comprehensive refresher course for your weaving skills or just learning to weave for the first time, this week-long class is for you. Weaving is first of all, learning to put warp threads on the loom properly. On the first day, students will warp their looms and weave a variegated “plain weave” wool scarf. Then putting what you’ve learned into practice, you’ll warp your looms again and weave up to two kitchen towels. Lastly, students will warp a longer project, a beautiful bamboo scarf. This scarf will be threaded in a twill weave structure which will require new threading and treadling patterns.
With each new project you will become more familiar with the warping process. You will also learn how to read a weaving draft (pattern) and how to design and calculate a simple weaving project of your own. Not only will you go home with your own hand woven pieces, you will go home with the confidence to start weaving on your own.
Fiber Crafts will provide all the necessary materials needed. We will weave on counter balance or countermarche looms for the course with a few jack looms available upon request.
This class is from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.
Looms and materials provided.
