Intensive 5-day Homesteading Course

3-day garden

5 day class

For many years, students have learned essential homesteading skills in our three-day homesteading course. Through practical instruction, lectures and demonstrations it covers the foundational skills you’ll need to start and maintain a family homestead.

In response to requests from some of our students, we’re now offering this five-day course to provide more extensive instruction.

In addition to everything we cover in the three-day course, we’ve added more hands-on activities and demonstrations to help you develop experience and confidence with the new skills you are learning. We’ll cover in greater detail important topics such as: soils, gardening, poultry, grazing animals and fencing. Finally, we’ll devote more time to homestead planning and design. If you wish, you may bring aerial photos and maps of your property to use as a class project or as an example to work with during the class.

Our goal in this new class is to equip you with the information and knowledge to make the necessary decisions for establishing your own homestead that will provide sustenance for your family. In the class, we’ll cover the following topics:

  • evaluating land
  • organic gardening
  • orchards
  • vineyards and berries
  • poultry
  • beekeeping
  • culinary herbs
  • dairy animals
  • sheep and goats
  • horse farming
  • pastures and grazing
  • fencing
  • barns & sheds
  • water supply
  • planning and design
