Introduction to Guitar Making

guitar copy

Through this seminar presented primarily through lectures and demonstrations, Joe Slack discusses the essential elements of how to build a steel-string acoustic guitar. He will show the different methods used to bend the curved sides, form and inlay the sound hole rosette and also the carving techniques used to form the neck of the guitar. He will discuss a variety of procedures and techniques that will inspire you as you consider making your own guitar, either from a kit or from scratch.

Each student will have the opportunity to bend some sample guitar sides themselves using traditional bending techniques. Joe will discuss the various things to look for in the different tonewoods and guitar acoustics. We allow plenty of time for question and answer.

In order to secure your place in a class, we must receive your full registration fee for any class costing less than $1,000.00. For classes costing $1,000.00 or more, fifty percent of the registration fee is due when you register and the remaining balance is due 30 days prior to your class date.

Note: Since our workshops are specifically designed for adults, an individual must be 18 years old to enroll in a class. All students should wear practical work clothes and shoes. For your safety, we ask that you do not wear shorts or sandals to a class you are attending.

All our classes close 24 hours before the class date with the exception of classes that start on Monday, which will close the Friday before. If there's a class that closed early that you'd like to attend, please call us at 254-754-9620 to check for availability.
