Try your hand at the ancient craft of spinning natural fibers on a wheel. (If you have already learned to draft your fiber on a traditional drop-spindle, you will find learning to spin on a wheel much easier.)
In this beginning level class you will learn how to prepare wool using a flicker and wool combs. We show the steps that take the raw wool from the fleece to become roving (that is, strands of fiber) and then teach you how to spin the fiber into a finished yarn. We will also teach you how to use prepared fibers. You will then learn how to ply your yarn and make a skein of homespun yarn that you can take home.
The use of a wheel and materials for the class are provided.
This class is from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
