Spinning 102 – Basics of Spinning on a Wheel (2-day)

Spinning

2 day class

In this two-day introductory workshop we review the essential coordination skills and basic techniques every spinner must master to gain beginning level competence in spinning. In addition to the use of wool cards, we will teach you how to prepare your wool for spinning with the use of 5-pitch English wool combs. Through teacher demonstrations we show you how to develop different sizes and types of yarn and explain how they affect different projects you may choose as you progress into higher levels of competence.

On the first day you will talk about worsted spinning and review combing. You will make a small skein of hand-spun yarn from your combed fiber. On the second day you will learn about the woolen method of spinning and how to use wool cards. You will then make a small skein using carded wool. You will take home two hand-spun skeins, one from combed wool and one from rolags.

We provide all the tools and equipment used in this workshop.

This class is from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Note: Since our workshops are specifically designed for adults, an individual must be 18 years old to enroll in a class. All students should wear practical work clothes and shoes. For your safety, we ask that you do not wear shorts or sandals to a class you are attending.

All our classes close 24 hours before the class date with the exception of classes that start on Monday, which will close the Friday before. If there's a class that closed early that you'd like to attend, please call us at 254-754-9620 to check for availability.
