Introduction

The piano is an amazing instrument, capable of playing just about any style of music imaginable. With ten fingers and the huge range of the piano at your disposal, the possibilities are just about endless.

In our Dynamic Piano series, you’ll gain an understanding, not only of the piano and how to play it in many different styles, but also of music, how it works and how songs are formed and structured. You are about to begin a journey of playing the piano that will take you as far as you are willing and able to go.

This series will give you everything you need to learn to play the piano by ear, along with lots of extras. You will learn about melodies and harmonies, chord structures and rhythms, bass lines and more. The musicianship that you gain from using this course will help you in all your musical pursuits both on and off the piano.

How the Dynamic Piano Series is Structured

The foundational level of the Dynamic Piano series consists of three courses:

  • A Free Introductory Lesson
  • Unit 1 (contains 10 lessons)
  • Unit 2 (contains 10 lessons)

About Dynamic Piano Unit 2

In unit 2, you’ll continue to expand your skills as you learn chord inversions, minor chords and how to use them. You’ll learn several different left hand patterns and rhythm techniques, all in the context of playing great songs and exercises.

  • Multiple chord inversions
  • Minor chords and how to use them
  • Several different left-hand patterns
  • New rhythm techniques
  • Lots of new songs

A Few Technical Details

All of the lessons and music are available for free download immediately below the lesson’s video. You can print out the lesson files and play the audio files directly on your computer. Or load them onto your favorite mp3 player.

This and all of our courses are interactive, so you can ask for help in our online Q&A forum. After you’ve learned to play a song well, record it and post it in our Showcase for everyone to enjoy.

The Instructor

Philip Lancaster is an accomplished musician and composer. He is a virtuoso on a number of instruments including piano, organ, French horn, trumpet and more. He also composes and arranges music for the Heritage Choir and Orchestra and directs the Heritage Youth Orchestra. He has been playing the piano for 30 years and over the past 12 years has taught close to one hundred students of all ages. He has developed this video series, along with co-author Marcia Bench, using their combined experience of over 35 years of hands-on teaching. This experience has given them special insight into the various issues new piano students face, so the courses are designed to preempt potential problem areas and give you a solid foundation for piano playing in any style.
