Description
2 day class
In this two-day introductory workshop we review the essential coordination skills and basic techniques every spinner must master to gain beginning level competence in spinning. In addition to the use of wool cards, we will teach you how to prepare your wool for spinning with the use of 5-pitch English wool combs. Through teacher demonstrations we show you how to develop different types of yarn and explain how they affect different projects you may choose as you progress into higher levels of competence.
On the first day you will talk about worsted spinning and learn to comb. You will make a small skein of hand-spun yarn from your combed fiber. On the second day you will learn about the woolen method of spinning and how to use wool cards. You will then make a small skein using carded wool. You will take home two hand-spun skeins, one from combed wool and one from rolags.
We provide all the materials and equipment used in this workshop.
This class is from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Prerequisite: Spinning 101 – Introduction to Spinning on a Wheel
