Description
In this workshop we will give an overview of knitting practices and terms and students will learn one of the two basic stitches used in all knitted projects. You will learn to cast on (put the required number of stitches on the knitting needle), master the basic knit stitch, join yarn, bind off stitches, use finishing techniques to complete the project, and learn how to correct simple mistakes. You will also learn about needle sizes, different weight yarns, and how to read a yarn label. For the class project we will knit coasters in a garter stitch pattern to be felted at home. There will be sufficient yarn to knit several coasters or a matching hot pad, if desired.
After completing the class, students will have acquired the skills to make a simple garter stitch scarf at home. We will provide a pattern for the scarf and students may purchase yarn and begin to knit the scarf in class if they wish to do so. A basic knitting book, notebook, yarn, knitting needles and a tapestry needle will be provided and are included in the materials fee.
This is a half-day class from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.All our classes close 24 hours before the class date with the exception of classes that start on Monday, which will close the Friday before. If there’s a class that closed early that you’d like to attend, please call us at 254-754-9620 to check for availability.
